Ken Alston Jr is a highly accomplished and internationally renowned vocal performer, recognized for his exceptional talent and versatility. With a remarkable vocal range, Ken has had the privilege of collaborating with prestigious institutions and orchestras such as Three Mo' Tenors, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Philadelphia, and the Czech, Charleston, Baltimore, and Soulful Symphony Orchestras.
Ken's journey as a performer began when he made the life-changing decision to leave his hometown of New York and pursue his education at Morgan State University. It was at this esteemed institution that he immersed himself in a comprehensive Liberal Arts program, ultimately earning his B.A. in Music. During his time at Morgan State, Ken delved into the world of classical and secular works, which not only broadened his artistic perspective but also deepened his understanding of scripture, drawing from his early Christian experiences.
Even before graduating from Morgan State, Ken's exceptional talent caught the attention of Three Mo' Tenors, an ensemble renowned for their diverse repertoire spanning opera, Broadway, spirituals, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and soul music. This incredible opportunity marked the beginning of a series of remarkable achievements in Ken's career. From performing for The 1619 Project at Riverside Church alongside Dr. William Barber, II, to assuming the role of Music Director and portraying Jimmy Early in the iconic production of Dreamgirls, Ken's list of accolades continued to grow. He even had the honor of performing at the National Rotunda in Washington, D.C., paying tribute to the legendary Rosa Parks, and making a memorable appearance on the popular HBO series "The Wire."
In addition to his remarkable achievements on stage, Ken has had the privilege of collaborating with world-class orchestras such as the Czech Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, Darin Atwater's Soulful Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Opera Company of Philadelphia. Following a captivating performance at the Historic Ebenezer Church in Atlanta, Georgia, Ken was entrusted with the role of music directing "Passages of Martin Luther King," a powerful production that resonated with audiences in Beijing, China. This experience led to the formation of the beloved Passages singers, a group dedicated to spreading the message of the civil rights movement through the universal language of music.
Ken's unwavering passion for the arts and his exceptional talents as a performer have been instrumental in shaping his remarkable journey. With each step guided by a higher power, Ken continues to captivate audiences worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the performing arts industry.
